Seven Canadian Athletes Join Forces to Conquer The Sinister 7 100km Ultra Race.Taking place in Alberta, Canada this rugged race features an intense 6600m elevation gain over 100km with 7 legs and a total of 30 hours to complete this ultra competition. With the Seven Sisters mountain range looming throughout most of the course this event is as breathtakingly beautiful, as it is physically challenging. With the focus on the finish line, few have what it takes to be mentally, and physically prepared for an events that takes more than 24 hours to complete. Some may wonder why people voluntarily sign up for this event but the truth is, with the beautiful scenery surrounding every turn, and hilltop you triumph- it's more addicting that you think! With the focus on the finish line rather than 1st place, ultra'a are a place for overcoming personal bests, pushing through the temporary struggles, and working at a pace that suits you, and we've heard you feel like a super-hero afterwards as well. Brought together for the first time, this group of extraordinary athletes is excited to reach the finish line of this gruelling race. Leg 1: Nigel Lauchlan"Nigel is a former ski jumping national team member. He competed internationally in ski jumping until 2020, he started his career on the hills at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. He is now the head coach of Altius Nordic, the same club he competed for. He also works at Gord’s running store, and would love to say hi if you're in town. " Leg 2: Cathryn Rowley"Cathryn is a master cross country skier with her sights set on World Masters champs in Canmore next winter season. She enjoys ultra marathons, she has done a leg of sinister 7 before and will be doing leg two this year, on top of that she will help one of her friends who is competing solo this year in the 100! "BlockLeg 3: Ryan Plett “Ryan is an engineer with a passion for learning about, and experiencing, human movement. His interest in endurance sports developed from an intense curiosity about the adaptability of the human body to extreme physical stress. The scenery is always a welcome bonus too.”BlockLeg 4: Miguel "Mexico's Sweetheart" Macedo"Miguel races for the U of Calgary track team. His goal is to compete at NACAC- The North American Cross Country Championship next year. He specializes in the 1500m distance and is a very dedicated athlete."BlockLeg 5: Allison McArdle"Allison is a very accomplished ski coach, she has travelled the world to World Championships, World Cup, and every major ski event. This year she is looking to qualify an athlete to the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022. In addition to this she coaches her own masters program and is preparing them to achieve their personal bests and potentially medal at World Masters champs in 2022 in Canmore.She is an enthusiastic ultra runner and loves the challenge."BlockLeg 6: Simon Haynes "Simon is a masters cross country skier, his goal this winter season is the Masters World champs in Canmore. He is a dedicated athlete very committed to his training and has lots of grit, this being very clear as he will be racing leg 6 arguably the hardest leg of the race."BlockLeg 7: Marcus "mini-runner" Ganz"Marcus races with the U of Victoria track team. His goal is to go to the the pan-am’s for cross country one day. He specializes in the 5000m and the 3000m steeple chase.
